Keith,
Of course you can post my note on your site.
An additional note on the Marble's matchsafe: I carried that as my emergency
supply
and, as luck would have it, never had an emergency that warranted dipping
into it.
The matches were waterproofed by painting with clear nail polish.
I was looking at it one day and wondered if they were still good. I
took out one
of the 50-year-old matches and dropped it into a glass of water, letting
it sit for
about 5 minutes before taking it out and striking it. It lit on the
first try and burned
down to the now-soaked unpainted base. I think we can safely say that
matches
so treated and stored in an air-tight container will be there when you
need them.
I also have a Marble's button compass from the same era with the brass
case
I carry in my pocket survival kit. I'll probably take that out now that
I have an excellent
compass in the match case.
I also had a Woodcraft knife, but that was stolen. For 3 years I was
the Campcraft
Director of Camp Glen Gray in Oakland, NJ, teaching leatherwork, wood
carving
and the like. I had a display board showing some of my own work and
the knife
was stolen from the sheath. It still bothers me that a Scout would steal
from me.
Glen Gray is still around
http://www.glengray.org/
But it's no longer a scout camp.
Take care,
Ralph DeCamp

Keith: Yesterday I received the three brass match cases and could not
be
more pleased. I have carried various match cases starting in the boy
scouts
and continuing through my years in the Army, hunting, fishing and camping
and
none compare with your product. The quality of your case far superior
to any
case I have used or those on the market today.
I do have one suggestion. I noted in your little booklet that you stress
the length
if the match must not allow the head to touch the plug. I fully understand
the
reason for your cautionary note, but believe that if you were to add
a wafer
of rubber to either the base of the plug (with glue) or better yet the
bottom of
the tube and load the matches so the heads would face the rubber wafer
it
would eliminate the potential of an accidental ignition. I believe the
plug at the
bottom of the tube and the match heads loaded downward would be the
bast
approach since it would avoid the eventual failure of a wafer glued
to the plug.
You product is fantastic, so please accept my suggestion as something
that might provide an improvement to what is already a great outdoor
tool.
Again, thanks for making this wonderful product.

Keith,
In my life I have owned a few things (VERY few things) that I consider
to be
the best ever made of their type. These match cases are in that category.
I'll hang on to the Marble's matchsafe I've carried for more than 50
years as a
keepsake, but one of the K&M cases will be with me from now on.
Thanks,
Ralph DeCamp

Dear Keith and Marge,
If my humble words can be of any sevice to you, please feel free to
use them.
I dipped the ends of some non-safety matches in candle wax and have
put them
into the case. Yesterday, I took the case (I did choose the brass one
in the end!)
for a walk in the woods and couldn't resist the temptation to give it
a try. The
match flared beautifully against the knurled side of the case. I love
the compass,
too - a wonderful and actually very useful feature.
Be warned: there will in all probability be another order coming along
soon.
Christmas is coming and I have nephews to buy for!
Very best wishes,
Richard

KL
Good news. Not yet but will go out tomorrow. Don't know if you keep
an
eye on the weather out here but we've been trying to keep from getting
buried
under one snow storm after another for almost a month - 4 1/2' so far.
That's not an unusual amount of snow for us but the temps have been
cold
enough that it won't slide off the roofs so has to be dealt with one
shovel
full at a time. Last Sunday I went out at 3:00 AM to check my shop (with
10"
of new snow on top of the 4' already there) and found 2 broken rafters
so
started shoveling immediately and called my sons later in the morning
for
help. We got it off without losing the whole building but have been
helping
others in town deal with the same problem. Just keeping a place to park
open has been a challenge as we're running out of places to put the
stuff.
Got the computer back from the factory about the 1st of the year and
tried it
right away but it appeared to have destroyed the programs so tried for
2 weeks to find a programmer to start over, finally found one who could
help but then decided to see if even one of the original programs might
have survived the crash. Got the factory brain on the phone Friday to
help
me search and fortunately we found at least one that did, so was able
to
copy and modify instead of having to start from scratch, which is a
very
time-consuming and expensive process. Saturday evening I got my first
good matchcase in over a month and it's a long version so will be cranking
out many more today if all goes well. If you're a man of prayer you
might
send one up!
Without question this has been our most frustrating experience with
our
equipment in 15 years. Because I'm not in the least bit computer literate
and
because we live in such a remote area it's especially frustrating trying
to
find help when it dies. Add the fact that programmers always seem to
be
behind in their regular jobs and you almost have to offer them a bribe
to
get them out here. Fortunately we skated by this time.
Please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience but know
that we're doing the best we can under the circumstances.
God bless, Keith

Hi Greg;
Thanks for taking the time to write such a nice letter about our
product. I tease Marge about being a Clara Smith
clone, the Honda lady who tested each mower before it shipped. If it
didn't
start on the first pull it didn't go. With Marge on the job I lose no

worrying about comebacks.

We have long and short brass in stock and I plan to run alums this
week.
Turnaround time on anodizing usually runs 1 to 2 weeks. We are in an
ongoing weather situation here that has forced us to spend a lot of
time
shoveling snow off of roofs so have fallen behind some.
Hopefully we've turned the corner.

Well we did our trip again, weather started out at +22.f with a good
forecast
and we had a nice camp, and all of our holes drilled for fishing, things
went
great!! Then the weather changed fast! We started to get a harsh n.w.
wind
and driven snow, wind speeds went to 35-45 m.p.h. the temp dropped
to-24.f at this time we were on the lake, and ended up in a white out!
about 4:00pm I knew it would not let up, and ended up leaving a three
mile
long lake using your excellent match case /compass heading due n./n.w
and
landed at our camp off by only150-200 yds! The wind blew non stop full
gail
for 32 hrs! when the wind finally ended the temp. plunged to -.37.f
this trip
turned out to be a survival trip.. I'm just glad the tent stayed together
.. p.s no cell phone coverage and 18 miles of forest rd. just to get
to pavement!!
We ended up hunkered down for the next day and a half because the weather
was to exreme to even attempt to get out!
Anyway, my buddy wants to order a short brass matchcase (told you so)
and with
the order 4 extra lanyards, 4 sets of o-rings, and 4 extra rubber compass
caps
please send me a quote with shipping to virginia, mn 55792, thank you,
brent!!
You are more than welcome to use my letter on your site and if you
need to
edit or combine the two letters that is fine because the stories are
as true
as the day is long!! also if you do not mind I would like to post pics/story
of your fine matchcase on a VERY REPUTABLE forum, just let me know...
thanks
again for a awesome survival product!!!

Subject: My Match Case
Hi Keith and Marge.
Just wanted to send a note to you about your product.
I have an older model, Double O-ring, blue outer ring on the compass,
red triangle for North, bottom marked "Troy ID USA", No
name on the compass.
Not sure what year that equates to, but it has been in my kit for
a pretty long time. I have often said I felt comfortable just about
anywhere with nothing but your match case and a decent knife.
I use this case all year round. Camping all through the summer, kayaking
year round and hunting in the winter. I have never had a situation
where it failed. It has been dropped, immersed and left on the picnic
table during downpours with no ill effects. I will be buying a few
more in the near future as presents.
Thanks for providing such a robustly engineered product. Your attention
to detail and function is much appreciated.
By the way, I am an ASQ Certified Quality Manager so I am well aware
of what it takes to provide an item of this quality. To do so at this
price point is nothing short of incredible.
Kindest Regards,
Carl W. Keller

Keith,
Thanks again for the K&M Fire Sticks and leather belt pouch.
What a great idea! I will
use them on my next camping trip along with my matchcase.
Enclosed is a knife lanyard that I tied for you. It is a different
twist on carrying a compass
and fire starter together. I keep my lanyard clipped to a Swiss
Army Knife, which includes
a wood saw. When together, the knife and lanyard make a very compact
survival set.
Also, enclosed is the information on the SAS mini compass that we discussed.
Best regards,

K&M Matchcases
"I posted this reply in another thread that was asking about
the quality of the Liberty Mountain (Olicamp) matchcase. I thought
I would post my reply here as well...
For what it's worth, don't waste your time on any other matchcase
except the one from K&M.
I'm a matchcase freak who has considered all of them and the K&M
is by far the best on the market. The quality and workmanship is
outstanding for the price. The design is simple and 100% reliable.
The case body is machined from solid bar stock. And it's made is
the USA!
I have two matchcases. One in brass which is heavy, but absolutely
gorgeous and one in plain, brushed aluminum (not anodized) which
is light, but still very tough. The plain aluminum matchcase had
to be special ordered.
My brass matchcase is several years old and has a luminous Brunton
compass. My new aluminum matchcase has a beautiful, blue faced,
non-luminous Suunto compass. Both are very high quality and accurate.
-
- K&M is now using O.D. military spec cord which is tighter
woven than the old cord and doesn't seem to snag as easy on the
case knurling.
If you order from their website the price is $19.00 plus $4.05 shipping.
If you give Keith a call @ 208-826-3447 and order direct, the price
is $15.00 plus $4.05 shipping. Not sure why.
Trust me, you can't go wrong with a K&M Matchcase!

-My friend in the UK should be very happy. Take care and thank again!

Matchcase endorsement 9 - Charles Eastman: "Thank you very much
for a very quality match case."
Mr. and Mrs. Lunders,
Thank you very much for a very quality match case. I’ve looked
high and low for a product even close to this, so this is even better
than expected! I will carry a small survival kit in it every day while
flying over Iraq – thank you for a product that allows me to do
that confidently! Take care.
Sincerely,
Charles Eastman
